13 ways to warm up your home décor this winter

February 1, 2024 · Katy · Leave a Comment

It might be chilly outside, but the right interior design can turn up the heat in your home

Christmas is over but winter is still in full swing, meaning dark and cold days ahead. But just because the weather outside leaves something to be desired, this doesn’t mean your home needs to feel barren too. Whether you’ve recently moved into new homes in Gateshead or have been living in the same space for years, injecting some warmth and cosiness into your interior design is a great way to fight against the chill of the season.

And we’re here to help, with all the inspiration you need. Here are our top tips for ways to warm up your home décor this winter.

Layer with luxurious textiles

Nothing says cosy like layers of soft textiles. Add thick, plush rugs on the floor, drape chunky knit throws over your sofa, and pile up fluffy cushions. The mix of textures not only feels great but also adds visual warmth to your space.

Embrace rich, warm colours

Incorporate colours that evoke warmth. Think deep reds, rich yellows, and earthy browns. These can be introduced through accent walls, decorative pieces, or even small details like cushion covers and vases.

Add wood accents

Wooden elements in your décor can instantly make a room feel warmer. Consider wooden picture frames, side tables, or even a rustic wooden coffee table. The natural material brings an element of the outdoors inside, creating a snug, cabin-like feel.

Light it right

The right lighting can transform the mood of a room. Swap out cool, white bulbs for warm, soft light. Add floor lamps and table lamps to create a cosy ambiance, perfect for those long winter evenings.

Create a reading nook

Winter is the perfect time to curl up with a good book. Create a cosy reading nook with a comfortable chair, a soft lamp, and a handy side table. Don’t forget a warm blanket!

Bring in the greenery

Plants can make any space feel more welcoming and alive, even in the dead of winter. Opt for indoor plants that thrive in low light and add a natural touch to your warm décor.

Display warm, inviting artwork

Art can change the feel of a room. Choose pieces that depict warm scenes or use warm colours. These could be landscapes, abstracts with warm hues, or even family photographs that bring a sense of warmth and love.

Use scented candles and diffusers

The aroma can have a significant impact on the feel of a room. Winter scents like cinnamon, vanilla, or pine can make your home feel extra cosy and inviting.

Invest in comfortable seating

Make sure your seating is as comfortable as it is stylish. Add an overstuffed armchair or a soft, deep sofa where you can sink in and feel the warmth envelop you.

Seasonal decorations

Christmas might be over, but you can still embrace seasonal decorations. Think twinkling lights, pinecones, and even a cosy fireplace setup to celebrate the season and add warmth to your home.

Incorporate plush bedding

Transform your bedroom into a warm, inviting cocoon by upgrading your bedding for the winter months. Think thick, fluffy comforters, soft flannel sheets, and an array of plush pillows. Choose bedding in warm tones or festive patterns to add to the cosy ambiance.

Hang heavy curtains

Swap out light, airy curtains for heavier drapery during the colder months. Thick curtains not only help insulate your rooms from the chill but also add a luxurious feel to your windows. Opt for rich fabrics like velvet or heavy cotton in warm tones to enhance the cosy factor.

Add a touch of vintage charm

Vintage pieces can add a sense of warmth and history to your home. Incorporate antique finds like an old rocking chair, a classic grandfather clock, or vintage tableware. These pieces not only serve as conversation starters but also lend a timeless warmth to your winter décor.
